The legacy of Sir Samuel Griffith – Comments in The Guardian Australia (5 June 2022)

In June 2022, I was invited to comment on calls to ‘cancel’ Sir Samuel Griffith by removing his name from the university, electorate, suburb and law journal named in recognition of his significant role in Federation.

I argued that we should continue to commemorate Griffith’s legacy because we continue to enjoy its benefits – a healthy democracy, responsible government and the rule of law.
